During his tenure with the Knicks, Chris Brickley recounted, he requested a two-week leave of absence from Phil Jackson to attend a training camp at the University of Louisville. Mitchell was a freshman at the time, having yet to compete in a collegiate game. It was then that the coach approached him, expressing his belief in Mitchell's potential, urging him to reach out and engage in training sessions with the young player. Prior to Mitchell's debut university match, the two commenced their training partnership at Louisville. This collaboration has persisted since. On the day Brickley parted ways with the Knicks, he embarked on a 14-hour drive directly to Louisville, committed to aiding Mitchell with his pre-draft training.
