"According to Irving, 'I hold a profound respect for the responsibility of setting a positive example for children and future generations, and organizing the tour is a significant stride in that direction. I also aim to use this opportunity to initiate some much-needed reforms within the AAU competitions. Over the past two to three, or even four, decades, the system has increasingly become money-oriented. Parents exert immense pressure on coaches, with everyone believing their child is the best in the nation. The pathways for top-level athletes have become increasingly constricted, as they constantly compete in the same events and training camps.'"
Moreover, it is essential to embrace individuals who engage in basketball solely for their passion, as well as those who aspire to be educated and awarded scholarships through the sport. The motivations behind playing basketball vary from person to person. I envision the Dr. J. Tourney as a platform that accommodates these diverse aspirations. Whether they are novices, seasoned athletes, or the brightest young talents, my aim is to draw them in and foster an event that is more balanced and brimming with competitive spirit.
With eager anticipation for the opportunities that lie ahead, I am delighted to announce that we are also dedicated to hosting events exclusively for girls aged between 12 and 18. We hold the chance for every individual to participate in high regard. Over the past several years, I have pondered how to engage a greater number of young individuals in discussions, ensuring they grasp the essence of meaningful basketball. It is essential for them to delve into the intricacies of the game, learn the rules, and become acquainted with the experiences of those who came before them. They should also familiarize themselves with the ABA, NBA, CBA, NBL, and European leagues.
