In 2022, Mazzulla underwent an interview for the position of head coach for the Jazz, though the team ultimately went with Will Hardy. Reflecting on the encounter, Mazzulla humorously recounted, "The first lesson I gleaned from that experience was to never wear a suit again. I remember feeling quite uneasy in my suit during the interview, so I vowed to myself that I would never repeat that mistake."
